Museum of Making Music, Free Admission on June 22!

“The interaction of people, instruments, and imagination makes music”

Carlsbad’s Museum of Making Music will be offering free admission this Saturday, June 22, from 2-5 pm.

If you haven’t been to this museum yet, you should definitely check it out!  The museum features an interactive hands-on walk-through of the history of music making in the U.S. from 1890 to today.  The exhibits focus on innovations in musical instruments and how these developments have shaped popular music in America.

The museum addresses the idea the musical instruments are not just tools, but are also important factors themselves in shaping how music progresses and evolves over time.  Innovations in the tools lead to further innovations in how they are used.  The museum focuses on this concept as it relates to the development of popular music in the United States, but this has been important factor in the development and evolution of music since the beginning.  As composers and musicians pushed the boundaries of their instruments, the instruments were adapted, and as the instruments changed, so did the music written for them.  This mutual interaction between musicians and their instruments has been one important factor of many that have helped shape how music has evolved over time.

Check out the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad this Saturday to learn more!  There is also currently a special exhibit featuring the Harp.  And before you go, learn more about the different musical instrument families.
